Kenneth's 25 years of faithful ministry celebrated
Alistair Mackay's sermon on the faithfulness of God the Father complemented the special musical contributions of the choir and the praise band which, together with heartfelt tributes and prayers, made for a moving and memorable occasion.
Kenneth was presented with three gifts from the congregation:
- a presentation folder of cards from members of the congregation expressing in 'one-liners' individuals' comments on what Kenneth's ministry had meant to each of them.
- a cheque
- a comprehensive Bible Commentary chosen by Kenneth
After the service current and former members of the congregation as well as friends of the manse family enjoyed a time of fellowship in the hall where Kenneth cut a celebration cake baked in his honour.
(Highlights of the service can be listened to on the Audio page).
Open Air Service 2013
There was a lot going on at our recent Open Air service as many took a very energetic part in illustrating Kenneth's message: we spend a lot of time trying to improve our outward appearance but God sees what's inside. We should therefore put every effort in to having hearts that are pure and pleasing to God.

As part of the celebrations to mark our church's 275th Anniversary Freeland took part in the local Gala Day procession with a special float.
A number of the ladies of the church dressed in typically 18th century costumes and processed behind the float as it drove along the Main Street and on into Houston Rd park.
The Freeland Church stall provided a special anniversary exhibition of photographs depicting maps and other documents recording the history of the church over the past 275 years.

A Fond Farewell To Derek
The service on Sunday morning, 27th January, was conducted in the minister's absence by Rev. Derek Peat. This was Derek's last Sunday with us and Graeme Harris, Session Clerk, thanked him warmly for his contribution to Freeland's work and witness during the previous 8 months. Making a presentation of a book and thank you card to Derek, Graeme praised his diligence, his preaching and his pastoral support during his time with us. He expressed the hope shared by the whole church family that Derek would soon be called to his own first charge and wished him every future blessing. Derek will be acting as locum in Glenburn Church for the next few months during their vacancy.

A great effort and an amazing array of talents displayed by all who supported this event.
Man is powerful - but God is omnipotent
Those of us who attended the family service on 7th April will recall Kenneth's talk about power. Ernie, in response to Kenneth's question, gave an informed guess that one of the biggest ship's engines made by man would be able to generate approximately 30000Kw of power.
Man's ability to generate power is certainly impressive but, as Kenneth reminded us, no skill or ingenuity of man has the power to resurrect someone from the dead!
Worshippers Return To Freeland's Roots on Easter Morning
Despite it having been the coldest March for 40 years, the weather remained clear and bright for this event for which all present were most thankful.
On the walk back to the church everyone present was able to ponder the commitment and perseverance that led our forefathers to meet in the open air in all weathers during the the long years before a building was erected in which to meet.

DAVID FERGUSON BRINGS NEWS FROM OMF, JAPAN
It was a pleasure and a privilege to welcome back David Ferguson to our Evening Service on Sunday 30th September. At the end of his month-long whistle stop tour of Scotland he shared some news with us about the work he and his wife Lorna have been undertaking in Japan for OMF.
Having opened with Paul’s letter to the church at Colosse (Col4 :2-9) David spoke of the importance of encouragement in the work of church planting- both the encouragement from the source church to those in the field of spreading the Gospel and also the encouragement sent from the mission field back to the churches at home. The purpose of the church is the same, whatever the geography. As Paul instructs prayer must be unceasing – prayer for doors to be opened to the spreading of the Good News – even though we may not see the results in our lifetime. Mission also requires the workers to be equipped with the right words so that they know how to answer questions and engage people in ‘conversations full of grace’, presenting the Gospel truths using normal, accessible language and not ‘church speak’. Mission is not only about words but also about actions that enable workers to get involved with people at all levels and in normal ordinary situations not just in targeted ‘events’. What is true of the mission field abroad is equally true for all of us at home. We all share the same responsibilities to reach people with the Gospel.
He described how contact had been made with many adults in Hiragishi, through their children. Parental groups supporting school activities and sports were proving a very helpful and normal way of getting to know people. David described the work of the team as often a ‘ministry of listening’. Some 20 thousand people died in Japan as a result of the tsunami and many have been left materially impoverished and spiritually rudderless in face of the disaster.
As David prepares to take on new responsibilities as Field Director and as Lorna takes over as Candidate Co-ordinator, he sees this as kairos for Japan – an opportune time when great things could happen. OMF is there now and the challenge for David and the team will be to discern how they best can be used in that situation.
Let us continue to pray for David, Lorna and their 4 sons that the Lord will bless them as a family. And let us pray for the OMF team in Japan that they know the Lord’s blessing and the Spirit’s energising and that their work bears fruit.
New CommunicantsThree of our young people were admitted to membership of our Freeland church family on Sunday 2nd September 2012 during Morning Worship. We wish Kate, Rebecca and Timothy God's richest blessings and trust that the strength and fervour of their faith continue to grow and develop in coming years as they are used by God in His service.
