"As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. John 15:9-17"

ImageIn this site you will find information about Freeland church, contacts and details of events and groups that are all part of our church family. There is no need to register.

Freeland Church has been at the heart of Bridge of Weir since the 1820's. During that time the church has had an emphasis on Bible teaching and community involvement. We have shown an independence of spirit and a desire to see Jesus lifted high.

As a church today our focus is threefold.
  • Clear Bible teaching through an expository ministry where we explore themes and books of the Bible at our services and in our Bible Study and Housegroup meetings. We try to apply the Bible to our daily lives and through that to become more like Jesus.
  • Our services are lively and relaxed. We use a wide variety of musical styles and people are encouraged to use their own gifts in leading parts of the worship. The focus of our services is always the preaching of the Word of God. It is always our hope that people find the worship fulfilling and encouraging and that through everything in the services people are able to grow in their faith or to come to faith.
  • We are a wide cross section of people who come from many different denominational traditions. However we are a family and families are very much the focus of our mission and outreach. It is very common for the younger children to wander about during the early part of the service and we try to make sure that they know that the church is for them.

CHURCH NEWS

OPEN AIR SERVICE 20TH MAY

This Sunday at 10.30am we plan to hold the service in the car park across from the church. It is an act of witness to the community and also an opportunity to free the worship so that we can have a more interactive service.
We will be joined by our friends from St Machar's Ranfurly Church and Suzanne will lead the worship.
After lunch we will be moving to the Moss Road Park to add our weight to the campaign to keep the park open for the local people. Worshipping, campaigning and sharing all on one day- that can't be bad.
All are welcome.

Update on the PRESBYTERY PLAN

Image

Why a Plan?
At the General Assembly in May 2011 it was agreed that the 1,200 or so ministry posts which are paid through the central offices would need to be reduced to 1,000.
This was required because the Church has for several years run an unsustainable deficit on the cost of ministry. It was also, as the name of the report from the Ministries Council makes clear, “20:20 Vision: Refocusing the Ministries of the Church for Mission”, an exercise designed to concentrate on how the church might use most effectively for mission the limited number of ministries available.
Every presbytery has been allocated a number of ministries based primarily on the population but with adjustments for more demanding areas, eg, presbyteries with mostly rural parishes or areas with the highest concentration of social needs.
All presbyteries were instructed to produce a ten year plan by December 2012 showing how they will get down to their allocated number.

Our Presbytery Plan Review Committee has visited all churches within the bounds, consulted with Kirk Sessions, received submissions and then assessed, using the various criteria set down in the General Assembly Report, how best the 41 ministries allocated to our presbytery might be deployed.
This Draft Plan is explained in a leaflet available to download here.

ImageAt the Morning Service on 29th April Jim Carruth invited the congregation, especially the young people, to support Oxfam's OLD MACDONALD HAD A FARM FOR AFRICA project. He explained that the aim of the project was to raise £482 per farmyard to equip rural communities in Africa with sustainable means of earning a living. For further information read more...
